Stephanie Coggins named Amarillo city secretary

Stephanie Coggins is taking her passion for Amarillo to a new level.

Coggins, a longtime City of Amarillo (COA) employee with more than a decade of service in various capacities, has been named city secretary. She will officially assume her duties on Aug. 23.

“I have a servant’s heart, and it excites me to provide the link between our citizens and their elected officials,” Coggins said. “I am honored to step into this role and support our mayor, city council and citizens of Amarillo.”

The city secretary serves as a liaison between the city council and citizens. The city secretary keeps, records and preserves the minutes and proceedings of city council meetings, serves as the municipal election administrator, manages the city’s records management program and oversees the appointment process for boards and commissions.

Coggins has also served as public works manager, assistant to the city manager, budget analyst and property accountant. Coggins is completing certification in the Texas Municipal Clerk Certification Program through the Texas Municipal Clerk’s Association. She also has a Bachelors of Business Administration and a Masters of Professional Accounting.

“Stephanie is extremely qualified to serve as the next city secretary,” said City Manager Jared Miller. “She brings a wide array of skills and experience in many different roles within the city. We are excited to have her in this new role.”

“The position of city secretary was attractive because I have a passion for serving Amarillo,” Coggins said. “I think it is incredible to be able to assist in accurately recording and preserving the history of Amarillo. I feel like this is a role to which I bring a lot of institutional knowledge that will allow me to best serve the organization.”
