Man shot by APD officers dies from wounds


The man involved in the shooting with Amarillo police officers on Friday has died from his wounds. Investigators identified him as 34 year old George Michael Mireles.

Mireles did have a felony warrant for dangerous drugs from the Texas Pardon and Parole. He was to be considered armed and dangerous.

The warrant for Mireles had been recently issued, and officers were not aware of it when they approached him. Mireles began shooting at the officers and they returned fire wounding the man,

An autopsy has been ordered by JP Horn for next week. 
 
The suspect APD PACE officers were looking for earlier has been booked into the Potter County Detention Center. He was identified as 29 year old Cayetano Vela Medrano.

Medrano was wanted Felony warrant for dangerous drugs from the Texas Pardons and Parole. He was also considered armed and dangerous. 

Medrano was known to stay in one of the apartments in the complex in the 1200 block of S. Roberts and was located inside an apartment there. He was taken into custody and booked into jail without incident. 

No officers were injured during this incident, however one police vehicle was hit by gunfire.
