Buffs return to the football field this week

The West Texas A&M Buffaloes begin fall practice on Monday afternoon inside of the Buffalo Sports Park as they prepare for the upcoming 2021 season under fifth year head coach Hunter Hughes.

Student-athletes reported to campus on Friday with medical appointments, a compliance workshop, media day and team meetings leading up to Monday's first practice. Practices during the opening week of camp will begin at 2 p.m. followed by a move to the morning once classes begin on Monday, August 23rd.
WT returns to the gridiron following a challenging 2021 season saw the Buffaloes push the envelope as they implemented strict but effective protocols that allowed WT to play the most games by any Division II institution during the COVID-19 Pandemic, finishing the fall with a 3-3 overall mark.
The Buffs have been tabbed third in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll announced on July 26th during the league's annual Media Day in McKinney, Texas. Texas A&M-Commerce picked up 15 of the possible 23 first place votes for a total of 175 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Angelo State (two first place, 152) and West Texas A&M (one first place, 125). UT Permian Basin (five first place) and Midwestern State finished tied for fourth with 112 points followed by Eastern New Mexico (60), Texas A&M-Kingsville (59) and Western New Mexico (33) to round out the poll.
The 2021 season will feature seven games inside of Buffalo Stadium beginning on Thursday, September 2nd as WT hosts the Texas College Steers with kickoff at J Ferg Field scheduled for 7 p.m. in Canyon.
