Shooting at Amarillo after-hours club leaves 6 people injured

Early Saturday morning, Amarillo police officers responded to a shooting at an after-hours club located in the 1300 block of NE 3rd Ave. Upon their arrival, officers discovered several areas where multiple rounds had been fired.

Six people arrived at local area hospitals with gun shot wounds from this incident. None of the injuries were life threatening.

“This gun violence is unacceptable in our community. It is not OK to stay silent on this issue because innocent lives are at stake.

"We appreciate the information that has come in and we expect more people to come forward and help sort out this incident by identifying the criminals who were shooting.

"The police department will continue to investigate this senseless violence until the shooters are brought to justice," Amarillo Police Chief, Martin Birkenfeld, said in a statement

The Amarillo Police Department said in a statement, "businesses that choose to operate in such a way that jeopardizes the safety of patrons are also part of the problem and will be held accountable."

“There are a number of places over the years that have popped up as after-hours clubs and these businesses are illicit businesses. They are a haven for drug dealing, they are a haven for illicit activity, assaults, and fights and this is a prime example of what we saw this morning.

“I’m trying not to be too emotional about it, but I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for us as a community to work on this violent crime situation. That means we have to talk out loud about it, we can’t be scared to say something and we can’t be scared to come forward when something like this happens," Birkenfeld said.
