New Mexico Republican Party event moving to Amarillo due to COVID restrictions

On Thursday, Amarillo mayor Ginger Nelson and Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) Chairman Steve Pearce will hold a press conference to announce “Operation Freedom,” a three-day Republican retreat that will be held in Amarillo May 14-16.

"We appreciate visitors from New Mexico who spend their time and dollars in our community. I am very excited for Amarillo to host this event.

"I appreciate the help we have had from Congressman Ronny Jackson and his office to secure this event in Amarillo," Nelson said.

Hundreds of people will take part in “Operation Freedom,” which will include prominent speakers from around the nation such as South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and Ohio U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan. Mayor Nelson will also be speaking.

New Mexico legislative leaders and RPNM leaders will attend the big event.

The goal of “Operation Freedom” is to raise optimism and find meaningful solutions for New Mexico by focusing on key issues, such as the economy, education and jobs. The event will address culture, opportunity and faith, and organizers will strategize on how to improve New Mexico by building stronger local communities.

The event will include speeches, presentations and workshops.

The New Mexico retreat is being held in Amarillo because of the COVID-19 restrictions placed on New Mexico by Gov. Lujan Grisham.

Moving “Operation Freedom” to Amarillo will give the city a big economic jolt as hundreds of attendees will come to the city for the weekend.
