Man arrested after fatal early morning crash in Amarillo


Early Friday morning, Amarillo police officers were dispatched to the intersection of I-40 West and Soncy on a traffic accident. 

A white Dodge truck driven by Luis Anchondo-Balderama, a 23-year-old male, was northbound on Soncy. A blue Ford Truck, driven by a 24-year-old male, was westbound on the I-40 Access Road. 

The white truck struck the driver side of the blue truck and caused the passenger side of the blue truck to strike a telephone pole. A female passenger in the blue truck, 23-year-old Morgan Michael of New Fairfield, Texas, died at the scene from injuries received. 

Luis Anchondo-Balderama, the driver of the blue truck was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated for minor injuries and arrested for Intoxicated Manslaughter and Intoxicated Assault. 

Speed and alcohol are contributing factors in this accident. The accident remains under investigation by the Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit.
