Seven year old boy dies after north Amarillo shooting

A 7 year old boy died Friday following a shooting incident in north Amarillo.

Early Wednesday evening, Amarillo police officers were called to the 3900 block of Paradise Avenue on a sick person laying in the roadway. As officers were responding, updates came in that the victim had possibly been shot.

The 7 year old boy was located in the street at that location, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital.

Investigators confirmed the other child who shot the 7 year old has been identified but cannot be charged with a crime. Texas law does not allow for any one under the age of 10 years old to be held criminally responsible for a crime.

The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit continues the investigation into this incident.
