Man arrested after drive by shooting and police chase


Monday evening, Amarillo police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of north Prospect Street on a fight in the street.

As officers were investigating this incident, they heard gun shots close to where they were. The officers observed a 4-door car drive northbound through the intersection of NW 2nd and Belleview Street at a high rate of speed.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver refused to stop. After a short pursuit through the West Hills and San Jacinto area, the driver exited the vehicle at NW 4th and Prospect and ran on foot.

The suspect, 20 year old Isaac Hernandez, was apprehended in the 400 block of north Prospect. Officers retraced the path that Hernandez had driven while attempting to evade officers and located a handgun in the yard of a residence in the 4200 block of SW 3rd Avenue.

Officers found that a residence and a vehicle in the 100 block of N. Belleview that had been struck by bullets.

This shooting incident remains under investigation.
