The Amarillo ISD has postponed a school dance scheduled for tonight at Fannin Middle School after a threat was posted on social media.
A photo was posted on social media that made a threat to the dance. Amarillo Police Department investigators were able to locate the juvenile who posted the message.
“Amarillo ISD is aware of a photo posted social media, which appears to make a threat in reference to a dance planned for tonight at Fannin Middle School. Working with Amarillo Police, we have identified the juvenile who posted the message. However, as the investigation is ongoing, we have decided to be cautious and postpone tonight’s dance.
"Providing a safe place for students and staff to learn and work is the most important thing we do. All threats are taken seriously and handled strictly in accordance with the student code of conduct. Safety is everyone’s responsibility and the “See something, say something” message empowers us all to help keep our schools safe."," AISD said in a statement.
This incident remains under investigation.
