Early Thursday morning, Amarillo police officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of Dumas Drive on an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Angel Vera, 24, of Amarillo, had been driving a 2015 Mazda MZ6. Vera had possible mechanical problems and was stopped in the east lane of northbound Dumas Drive standing outside of his vehicle.
A 2009 Ford F350 pickup, driven by a 30 year old male, was travelling northbound on Dumas Dr. The F350 pickup struck Vera and the Mazda MZ6 while Vera was standing beside his vehicle in the roadway.
Vera was taken to local area hospital where he later died due to his injuries. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Unit of the Amarillo Police Department.
