Body of Barrett Lee Jones found in Valley De Oro: Foul play not suspected


On 07/29/19 Barrett Lee Jones, 40, was reported missing by family members. The family reported they last spoke to him on or about 07/26/19 and that at time he indicated to them he was in Valley De Oro area, Potter County Texas.

The family members located Barrett’s truck abandoned on their property off of Old Muddy in Valley De Oro on 07/29/19 and contacted the Potter County Sheriff’s Office for assistance. Deputies and family members search the area, to include both property owned by them and properties adjacent but Barrett was not located.

Over the next few weeks’ investigators followed up on numerus leads and information that came in but nothing developed into anything solid. Over the weeks, months that followed deputies and citizens returned to the Valley De Oro area several times both following up on leads and just coming back out to continue the search but all efforts were to no avail.

On 10/05/19 at approximately 7:45 pm, information was received by the Amarillo Police Department, subsequently forwarded to Potter County Sheriff’s Office indicating that a body had been found in the Valley De Oro area off of Old Muddy. Deputies and investigators went to the location and located the body.

Through the investigation at the scene and subsequent autopsy performed this morning, 10/07/19 the body was positively identified as Barrett Lee Jones.

The cause of death has not been determined, toxicology is pending. The investigation is ongoing, additional details may be released at later date.

Foul-play is not suspected at this time.
