Palo Duro High School placed on lock down after report of person with gun

Thursday morning, APD school liaison officers and patrol officers received information that a juvenile outside of Palo Duro High School was armed with a gun.

Liaison officers, who were already on scene, quickly located and detained the subject. No weapon was located in the possession of the subject.

Multiple officers responded and assisted in investigating the incident and searching the area that the juvenile had been seen. After thoroughly searching Don Drive, where the subject had been, no weapon was located.

Amarillo ISD issued the following statement:

"While there is no immediate danger to students or staff at this time, Palo Duro High School has been placed on lockdown while Amarillo police officers investigate some information they received this morning.

"Contrary to reports, there is not an active shooter on campus. Students will remain safe in their classrooms (or in the area they were in at the school when the lockdown was first implemented) until the lockdown is lifted.

"We have already shared this information with Palo Duro High School parents and will provide an update when more information is available."
