Construction worker seriously injured on I-40

Late Wednesday morning, Amarillo police officers were dispatched to the 12,500 block of I-40 East on a motor vehicle backing over a pedestrian.

A 2008 Ford F-650, belonging to a contractor working on the guardrails for westbound I-40 at this location, was backing in a coned off construction zone. It was being operated by a 27 year old male of Graham, TX.

Investigators said the driver struck a 39 year old male co-worker of Clarksville, TX. The victim was taken to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries.

The accident caused I-40 westbound traffic to be shut down for a short time.

This incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
