Body found in Northeast Lubbock field

Monday morning, Lubbock police officers were called to a field near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Kent Street Monday morning. A person walking in the area found the body and called police just after around 9:00 am.

“At 9:08 a.m., LPD received a call from a walker stating that there was a body in the field west of MLK and south of Kent Street. Metro and EMS responded," the LPD said in a brief statement.

Investigators said the body is in an advanced state of decomposition. Due to the condition of the body, investigators were not able to determine the age or sex of the individual. Officers also could not confirm if the person died from natural causes or a homicide.

LPD officials said there would be an examination of local missing person cases to see if the body matches one of them.
