Sod Poodles defeat Frisco 7-4 in front of 20th consecutive sellout

The Amarillo Sod Poodles were victorious by a final score of 7-4 in game one against the RoughRiders in front of 6,580 patrons to mark the 20th consecutive sellout at home. Kyle Lloyd set the tone in the series opener with his seven-inning, nine-strikeout performance while Luis Torrens led the way offensively for Amarillo, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored while extending his hit streak to 14 games.

In the first inning, Frisco put up a crooked number as Andretty Cordero singled home Leody Taveras on a hit to left-center field to give the RoughRiders the early 1-0 lead. Then in the second inning, Charles Leblanc hit a leadoff home run to straightaway center field to extend the Frisco lead to 2-0.

The RoughRiders tacked on one run in the fourth inning to expand their lead to 3-0. Eliezer Alvarez worked a leadoff walk, followed by a Leblanc single. Preston Beck then grounded into a fielder's choice advancing Alvarez to third base. Michael De Leon grounded into a second straight fielder's choice which plated Alvarez.

Amarillo responded in the bottom of the fourth inning as they plated three runs on four hits to tie the ballgame up at 3-3. Owen Miller doubled to right-center field to start the inning. Luis Torrens followed with a single as Miller advanced to third base. Hudson Potts drove in the first run with an RBI double to shallow center field. Brad Zunica finished off the scoring as he roped a two-RBI double to center field.

In the fifth inning, the Sod Poodles continued their offensive explosion with a pair of RBI doubles from Torrens and Potts. Topped off by a two-run home run from Kyle Overstreet to give the Soddies the 7-3 advantage.

Frisco cut into the Amarillo lead in the sixth inning as Cordero hit a solo home run to narrow the Sod Poodles lead to 7-4.

The Sod Poodles bullpen made up of Dauris Valdez and Kazuhisa Makita shut the door on the RoughRiders as they pitched a combined two innings of scoreless baseball. Valdez recorded his sixth hold as Makita earned his second save of the season as the Sod Poodles defeated the RoughRiders by a final score of 7-4. 

The Sod Poodles continue their four-game series with the RoughRiders Friday. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
