APD releases more information on the search for Matthew Dillon Jones

On August 7th, members of the APD SWAT Team conducted a joint operation with the Potter County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies to attempt to locate Matthew Dillon Jones.

The agencies searched for several hours and located evidence that Jones has very recently been on foot in the Tierra Grande neighborhood.

Jones has not been located at this time.

The Amarillo Police Department advises anyone in that area to be cautious when entering abandoned or unused buildings, campers, or trailers.

APD Homicide Detectives received information that Jones, who has a warrant for murder in Potter County, is still in the area. Jones is suspected of committing a burglary in rural Potter County.

The burglary occurred on Friday August 2nd and was reported to the Potter County Sheriffs Office. Several firearms were taken in the burglary and physical evidence at the scene points towards Jones being the suspect.

There has been at least one other report made in the rural areas of Potter County of an empty or abandoned property being broken into.

Police want everyone to continue to be on the lookout for Matthew Jones. If you see him, do not approach him. Jones is believed to be armed and dangerous.
