Amarillo City Council approved Tuesday the sale of property at 601 W. Amarillo Blvd. to the North Heights Linen Service, LLC (NHLS). The location is the site of the old Inn of Amarillo, which was approved for demolition by the council in April 2017.
The site will now be the home of NHLS, a 25,000 square-foot healthcare laundry facility which will provide linen service to local and regional healthcare facilities. The price of the sale was $210,800 – payable in 10 years at zero percent interest. The goal of the agreement between the city and NHLS was to provide the economic incentive for the facility to be built at this location. The agreement originated when members of the NHLS board approached the city regarding the site.
“This is an exciting economic opportunity for Amarillo, and the North Heights neighborhood, specifically,” said Andrew Freeman, Director of Planning and Development Services for the City of Amarillo. “This will be a $5 million facility within the North Heights neighborhood. This will create new quality jobs and encourage employment of nearby residents.
“This is a win-win project. A local group of citizens developed the idea to meet a local need, and it gets the property back on the tax rolls.”
NHLS will start operations with 40 full-time employees, and plans are to expand the payroll to 100 full-time employees.
