Brothers wanted for Canyon home invasions arrested in New Mexico

Two brothers wanted in connection to a series of home invasions in Canyon have been arrested in Union County, NM.

Christopher McClain, 23 and Davonne McClain, 26, both of Canyon, were arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, after being stopped for a traffic violation. The brothers were traveling in a 2019 Kia Soul stolen from one of the home invasions in Canyon.

Both men now face aggravated robbery and theft of property charges related to the home invasions in Canyon.

In the early morning hours of July 5, Canyon police officers were sent to the 600 block of 4th Street. A 33-year-old female and her three-year-old granddaughter were approached in the home by a large man dressed in all black. The woman screamed and the suspect fled from the house through the back door.

A male in the home woke up because of the woman's scream. He and ran outside to attempted to catch the suspect.

Police searched the neighborhood, but were unable to locate the suspect.

Around 7:50 am., police were dispatched to the 600 block of 5th Avenue on another home invasion in the same neighborhood. Investigators say a 70-year-old female and 71-year-old male, were home at the time of the home invasion robbery.

Police determined that the robber entered the house, possibly through a window, and struggled with the male victim. The woman approached by a large black man dressed in all black clothes and wearing a black mask. He took her phone and tied her up with tape.

During the struggle, the male victim suffered arm and facial injuries while attempting to fight off the robber. The man was treated by BSA EMS and taken to Northwest Texas Hospital for further treatment.

The couple's 2019 Kia Soul was also stolen by the suspects, and used as the get away vehicle. Canyon police sent a description of the vehicle to other law enforcement agencies in the area.

Canyon detectives have forwarded the criminal case to the Randall County District Attorney’s Office.
