WT's Yearego receives free agent opportunity with Oakland Athletics

West Texas A&M's Dominic Yearego received the call of a lifetime on Saturday morning as the right-hander received a free agent opportunity with the Oakland Athletics following a standout career in Maroon & White.

The Prosper, Texas native became the program's all-time leader in saves (23) and appearances (68) during his time in Canyon as the talented closer tossed 131.2 career innings for the Buffs, allowing just 49 runs (42 earned) on 110 hits with 31 walks and 154 strikeouts for an opposing batting average of .222 with a 2.87 ERA.

Yearego earned First Team All-Lone Star Conference honors this season while also being named a Second Team All-South Central Region selection. He finished the season with a 3.41 ERA as the righty tossed 34.1 innings out of the bullpen for the Buffs, allowing 15 runs (13 earned) on 25 hits with 13 walks and 54 strikeouts for an opposing batting average of .202 as he registered 11 saves on the season to rank 13thin the nation.

The Buffs recently concluded their 2019 campaign with an overall record of 41-12 to set a new program record for victories in a single season, WT claimed their third Lone Star Conference Tournament Title in the last four seasons while making an appearance in the NCAA Division II Baseball Postseason for the sixth straight season.
