Hooks blank Soddies 1-0

Sod Poodles
The Amarillo Sod Poodles were blanked 1-0 on Saturday night at Whataburger Field, despite six strong innings from starter Kyle Lloyd and solid bullpen work.

Lloyd allowed just three hits in six innings while striking out four batters. The Hooks scored the lone run of the ballgame in the fifth on a fielder's choice, in a frame that featured an error from Amarillo's infield.

Hooks starter Christian Javier spun 6.1 scoreless frames in his outing, allowing just two hits and striking out eight.

Corpus Christi reliever Collin McKee relieved Javier in the seventh with a runner on first base and would go on to throw 2.2 scoreless frames. McKee picked up his fifth save of the season.

Edward Olivares drew a leadoff walk to begin the ninth against McKee, but the righty bounced back to retire the side and end the ballgame.

J.C. Cosme and Dauris Valdez combined to throw two scoreless innings out of Amarillo's bullpen after Lloyd exited the game.

Ivan Castillo had two singles against Javier. Buddy Reed collected Amarillo's other hit with a bunt single to begin the eighth inning.

The Sod Poodles and Hooks finish their series at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Amarillo sends lefty Adrian Morejon to the mound for a start while Corpus Christi will use left-hander Brett Adcock.
