WT's Abraham Seaneke wins national title in long jump

West Texas A&M's Abraham Seaneke earned the program's second individual national title on Thursday afternoon during the first day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas. The senior won the long jump with one of the top all-condition marks in NCAA DII history.

Seaneke defeated former National Champions Isaac Grimes of Chadron State and Ryan Brown of Lincoln (Mo.) with his wind-aided mark of 26-9.25 (8.16m) that came on his fifth attempt of the competition. It is the sixth-best mark in NCAA DII history in any condition making him one of 11 student-athletes to jump over 8.10 meters.

After jumping 25-10.25 (7.88m) on his first two attempts, he improved his fourth attempt (26-1.75/7.97m) before going over 8 meters for the second time in his career on the fifth attempt to make WT one of two schools to win the men's and women's long jump in the same championship.

Nicolai Hartling punched his ticket to Saturday's final in the 400 meter hurdles finishing second in Heat 2 and third overall running 52.29. William Frobe also competed for the Buffs finishing 20thin 54.52.

Quinton Sansing had to deal with the win in the 400 meters where he finished fourth in the first heat and 10thoverall running 47.21. The men's 4x100 meter relay of Sansing, Tyrin Lewis, Theo Piniau and Jordan Atkinson finished fourth in Heat 2 and ninth overall running 41.11.

The Buffs return to action tomorrow, May 24, for day two of the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships beginning at 4:45 p.m. with the triple jump.
