WTAMU baseball players honored by Lone Star Conference

Nine members of the West Texas A&M baseball team were honored for their efforts on the diamond on Wednesday night as the Lone Star Conference announced their annual postseason awards at a banquet inside of the Jack B. Kelley Student Center in Canyon prior to the start of tomorrow's LSC Baseball Championship presented by Under Armour.

Senior right-hander Joe Corbett was named the league's Pitcher of the Year as the Edmond, Oklahoma native has tied the program record for victories in a single-season and a career while moving his way up the all-time strikeout list. Corbett becomes the third Buffs in history to earn the honor as he joins former All-Americans Marshall Kasowski (2017) and Dylan James (2014).

Corbett was joined on the All-LSC First Team by Keone Givens, Zach Dixon, Dominic Yearego and Kyle Kaufman while Darin Cook picked up Second Team accolades, Nick Guaragna and Justice Nakagawa were named Honorable Mention selections while Nakagawa and Givens were also named All-Defensive.

On the academic side, Dixon was named to the All-LSC Academic Team while teammate Tag Baxter was tabbed the league's Academic Player of the Year with a perfect 4.0 GPA in Civil Engineering to become the first baseball student-athlete from West Texas A&M to earn the honor on the diamond.

The Buffs serve as the host of the 2019 LSC Baseball Championship presented by Under Armour starting tomorrow afternoon at Wilder Park in Canyon, WT earned a bye in the quarterfinal round as they await the winner of third seeded Texas A&M-Kingsville and sixth-seeded Tarleton in the semifinal round on Friday night at 7 p.m.
