The Amarillo Sod Poodles evened the series with a 9-4 victory over the Midland RockHounds Tuesday evening. With the 5,462 fans in attendance on the night, the Sod Poodles have welcomed 101,408 fans in just 17 home games, becoming the first team in the Texas League during the 2019 season to reach over 100,000 in attendance at home.

Right-hander Kyle Lloyd (1-0) made his first start for the Sod Poodles Tuesday night against Midland, tossing an impressive five innings while allowing just one run on five hits with one walk allowed and a season-high six strikeouts.

Rodrigo Orozco and Edward Olivares highlighted the night offensively for the Sod Poodles, both collecting multi-hit and multi-RBI nights while Brad Zunica collected his seventh home run of the season.

For a second consecutive night, the Sod Poodles offense got an early start with a run in the bottom of the first. After a leadoff single by Orozco, a groundball fielders choice would allow Ivan Castillo to trade places on first base with one out. Following a stolen base by Castillo, Olivares struck a line drive single to left-center field to make it a 1-0 contest.

The Sod Poodles kept the rhythm and, in the third, plated two more runs highlighted by Zunica's leadoff, first-pitch home run out to left field. Buddy Reed, who singled, would score the second run of the frame on Olivares' sacrifice fly ball to extend the lead to 3-0.

Then, in the fourth, Amarillo continued their offensive fury with a three-spot to take a 6-0 lead. After a one-out fielding error on Taylor Kohlwey's groundball, hit-by-pitch to Kyle Overstreet and long single off of the right-field wall by Zunica to load the bases, Orozco and Castillo collected a pair of hits - a single and double respectively.

Midland would plate their first run of the contest in the fifth after three hits, including two doubles, to minimize the deficit to 6-1.

In the bottom half of the fifth, the Sod Poodles responded once again with another three-run frame to extend to a 9-1 lead on a walk by Olivares and three consecutive hits, including back-to-back doubles by Kohlwey and Hudson Potts.

In the eighth, the RockHounds threatened, loading the bases with nobody out on Sod Poodles reliever Travis Radke. After a strikeout to record the first out, Nate Mondou knocked a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield to plate Midland's second run of the night.

Then, in the ninth, Midland plated two runs on three hits to make it a 9-4 game but would stop there as the Sod Poodles closed out the half to even the series at 1-1.

Sod Poodles relievers Blake Rogers and Travis Radke combined for four innings of relief while allowing two earned runs on six hits combined.

The Sod Poodles and RockHounds will complete their three-game series Wednesday night when right-handed pitcher T.J. Weir takes the mound for Amarillo with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Weir will face off against Midland righty Brian Howard.
