Several people rescued from Canadian River this past weekend

This past Saturday night, the Amarillo Police Department dive team Potter County Sheriff’s Department rescued several people who had become stranded in the Canadian River due to rapidly rising water.

A total of 13 people, including children, were rescued from the river. The rescue victims' had become stranded in the middle of the river, and some of the people had actually fallen into into the water.

Rescuers and drone pilots continue to search the river until around 3 am Sunday to ensure no one else was stranded. No serious injuries were reported.

The public should note that conditions at the Canadian River could continue to be very dangerous due to the recent heavy rains.
