Potter County wreck leaves 2 adults and 2 children dead

Two adults and two children are dead following a head-on collision late Saturday night 12 miles north of Amarillo on US 87. A 13-year-old child suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision.

Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety said that a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Mario Alberto, 35, of Amarillo, was traveling south in the northbound lanes of US 87. The Avalanche crashed head on with a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by Trey Tipton, 34, of Dumas.

Alberto may have been under the influence of alcohol.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Gary Jackson. Two passengers in the Camaro a five and nine-year-old, were also killed in the collision.

The 13-year-old passenger in the Camaro was airlifted to an Amarillo hospital.

DPS officials continue to investigate this crash.
