Motorcycle accident leaves Amarillo man dead

Early Sunday evening, Amarillo police officers were dispatched to southwest 9th Avenue and Bushland Avenue on an accident involving a motorcycle and a motor vehicle.

A 2005 Harley Davidson, driven by 34 year old Tristan Dave Stewart of Amarillo, had been westbound on 9th Ave. Stewart lost control of the motorcycle, crossed into eastbound traffic lanes, and struck a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan head on.

Stewart died at the scene from injuries received in the collision. Stewart was not wearing a helmet.

The 64 year old male driver of the Caravan was taken to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Speed is a possible factor in this wreck. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
