Amarillo City Council incumbents all win re-election, AISD board gains 3 new members


On Saturday, it was a landslide victory for all of the incumbent members of the Amarillo City Council.

In the mayoral race,  Ginger Nelson defeated Claudette Smith and Kip Billups with 63% of the vote.

City councilmembers Elaine Hays, Freda Powell, Eddy Sauer and Howard Smith easily retained their seats, with each incumbent winning over 60 percent of the vote.

David C. Woodburn, Johnny Mize and Paul Proffer were elected to serve a six-year term on the Amarillo College Board of Regents.

The Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees will see three new members.

Kimberly Anderson, Alonzo Everhart and Dick Ford were elected to four-year terms on the Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees. Robin R. Malone ran unopposed for an unexpired term on the AISD board.

Amarillo College’s bond proposal passed with 53.56 percent.
