Bulls and Mudbugs face-off in 5th and deciding game

Amarillo Bulls
For just the second time in 23 years, there will be a hockey game in May at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Amarillo Bulls host the Shreveport Mudbugs in the fifth and deciding game of the South Division Championship series. The puck drop is set for tomorrow (Sunday) night at 7 pm. The winner will move on to the Robertson Cup National Semi-final Series that begins this Friday in Blaine, Minnesota while the other will see their season come to an end.

The last time there was May hockey was the 2014 South Division Championship when the Bulls hosted the Topeka RoadRunners. That series was memorable because the Bulls came back from a two- game deficit only to fall in game five 6-2.

In this championship series, the Bulls and the Mudbugs have played four exciting and emotional games and the fifth one should be the same. The Mudbugs captured game 1 with a 3-1 triumph, while the Bulls scored two in the first period and went on to take the second game 4-1 and even the series. The scene shifted to Shreveport where the Bulls came back from a 3-0 third-period deficit to beat the Mudbugs 4-3. David Ojamae potted the game winner at the 4:18 mark of overtime.

In the fourth game the Mudbugs scored late in the second period and held off Amarillo 2-0 in a goaltender duel as Leo Chuard bested Justin Evenson.

Sunday’s fifth game will mark the 17th meeting of the season between the two teams and the 10th total playoff game combined as each team has had to go the limit in their respective South Division series.
