Texas Tech traveled to the NCAA Final Four intending to play 80 minutes. The Red Raiders played that full 80 and then some in a thrilling NCAA Championship game Monday night.
Virginia, however, connected on a game-tying 3-pointer with 12 seconds remaining in regulation and then used an 11-0 run in overtime to win its first national title, defeating the Red Raiders, 85-77, at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Brandone Francis poured in a team-high 17 points off the bench as one of five Red Raiders in double figures. He was joined by Jarrett Culver and Davide Moretti with 15 points each, Kyler Edwards with 12 and Matt Mooney with 10.
The Red Raiders, who were making their first appearance all-time at the Final Four, close the season at 31-8 overall, their most wins in school history. The season featured a Big 12 regular-season title as well, Tech's first since joining the league in 1996.
