Three Ector County deputies shot while serving warrant in Odessa: Suspect dead

Monday evening, three Ector County Sheriff's deputies were transported to Medical Center Hospital after being shot during a narcotics search warrant about 9:30 p.m. Monday. The suspect was shot and killed during the incident, while another person was taken into custody.

The officers made entry into a residence in the 7300 block of Kentucky Ave when the suspect opened fire on the officers, striking two in the leg and grazing one in the lip. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

All 3 officers were transported to Medical Center Hospital and have been listed in fair condition.

A second suspect remains in custody at the time of this release and is being questioned by officers.

The Texas Rangers are on scene investigating the incident, which is standard protocol for officer involved shootings.

The names of the officers are being withheld at this time, and the investigation continues.

Sheriff Mike Griffis said “The good Lord looked down after us tonight, it could have been way worse”.
