Patient injured during fire at UMC in Lubbock

University Medical Center confirmed that a patient was injured Saturday evening when a fire started on the third floor of the hospital.

The Lubbock Fire Department responded to UMC at 8:46 pm. Patients were evacuated from the third floor and were allowed to back after the fire was extinguished.

"Upon arrival crews found evidence of a fire that had burned out in room 390," the Lubbock Fire Department said.

UMC said the patient in the room were the fire started was treated for burns. The hospital declined to describe the extent of injuries to the patient.

Investigators said the cause of the fire was not yet known. It is not believed any of the medical equipment in the room caused the fire.
