Man trying to burglarize vehicles and homes shot by Lubbock homeowner


Late Wednesday night, a man trying to burglarize vehicles and homes was shot by a homeowner in Lubbock. Lubbock police officers were called to the 3500 block of 38th street, just before 10:00 pm following reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located 43 year-old Oliver Perez with a gunshot wound. Perez was transported to UMC with serious injuries. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Information obtained through the initial course of the investigation indicate Perez was attempting to burglarize vehicles and homes in the area when he was shot by a homeowner.

At this time, no arrests have been made. An investigation by LPD’s METRO unit is on-going.

Investigators are asking residents in this area who believe they may have caught any suspicious video on camera overnight to send that video to the department’s Facebook page (@LubbockPD) via messenger.
