Lubbock bomb threats connected to others nationwide: No threats in Amarillo metro area

Several bomb threats made in Lubbock on Thursday were connected to similar threats made to businesses nationwide.

At approximately 1 pm., the Lubbock Police Department received calls from several different businesses referencing a bomb threat made through email. All emails are demanding payments through Bitcoin.

At this time, no suspicious packages have been located and it appears the email is possibly a scam. The LPD currently has officers at each location and has notified the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives of the calls. A LPD bomb detection K9 has also assisted with the calls.

Other cities across the country are also reporting similar bomb threats through emails.

The locations in Lubbock that we are investigating include:

Overton Hotel at 2322 Mac Davis Lane

Starquest Substance Abuse Facility at 3315 E. Broadway

Alderson Cadillac at 1210 19th Street

Branchwater Apartments at 5411 4th Street

McPherson Winery at 1615 Texas Avenue

Again, at this point the threats do not appear to be credible; however they are being actively investigating. There have been no reports of bomb threats in the Amarillo metro area at this time.
