Highway 70 bridge Dickens County to be replaced

Work on a $1.6 million Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) project to replace the bridge at SH 70, over Duck Creek located approximately three miles north of Spur in Dickens County, is set to begin this month. Project contractor is Coppell Construction Co., Inc., of ST. JO, Texas.

“Work to demolish and replace the existing bridge will require us to completely close SH 70 to all through traffic,” said Jared Groves, TxDOT Munday Area assistant engineer. “Both north and southbound SH 70 traffic will be detoured around the work zone via FM 1868 for the duration of the project.”

Work is scheduled to begin on Dec. 17; the bridge will be closed to traffic at this time. Local traffic will continue to have access to either side of SH 70, but will not have access to the bridge, Groves noted.

Completion date for the project is set for mid-summer 2019.
