City of Amarillo opens Code Blue Warming Station for homeless

The City of Amarillo has open the Code Blue Warming Station to help the homeless stay warm during extreme cold weather.

Officials said the Code Blue Warming Station provides a space for those Amarillo citizens that are out in the elements to take shelter and give them a chance to warm up during cold winter months. The Code Blue Warming Station is located at the Guyon Saunders Resource Center (GSRC) at 200 S. Tyler St.

If you see a citizen out after 6 pm that looks in need of shelter, please call 806-414-2243 to have the Code Blue team dispatched to assist them.

The organization is in high demand tonight for the following donations:

1) Adult coats/jacket
2) Fleece blankets (but not a long term need due to bulk mylar and hospital blankets on their way)
3) Sugar for coffee
4) Individual hot chocolate packets
5) Travel size toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, shaving razors)
6) Cups of noodle soup
7) Snacks such as cheese and crackers in self contained packages

Donations may be dropped off at the Code Blue Warming Station.

We are also in need of agency and community volunteers. Volunteers shifts are: 6:00pm - 11:00pm, 11:00pm - 3am, 3am - 7am or for custom periods of time.
