Suspect escapes from local hospital and leads police on brief chase

Thursday morning, Amarillo police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Coulter on a male who had left the hospital.

Zane Dixon, 25, had previously been arrested by the DPS and was at a local hospital being medically cleared. Dixon escaped custody and fled the hospital towards southwest 9th Avenue.

Dixon went to a construction site in the area of Quail Creek Drive and Plum Creek Drive. He stole a pickup truck at that location and fled.

Officers observed the truck at I-40 and Coulter. Dixon fled from officers again. The truck was located in a parking lot in the 7000 block of IH-40 West and observed Dixon running into a motel in this block.

Dixon ran through the motel from the east and exited out a side door to the west. He went into a neighboring motel and then exited it before running south into the neighborhood.

Officers located an open door to a residence in the 7100 block of Adirondack. Dixon was located in the back yard of this residence and taken into custody. He was taken back to the hospital and released to the custody of DPS.
