Canyon ISD bus overturns south of Amarillo

Law enforcement and first responders are currently on the scene of a school bus accident south of Amarillo. Officials say the bus overturned before 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

"A Canyon ISD bus was involved in an accident this morning. The bus driver, bus monitor, and one student were on the bus.

"Although there did not appear to be injuries, the student was transported to the hospital as a precaution," the Canyon ISD said in a statement.

Texas DPS Sgt. Cindy Barkley said the bus overturned after rear ending a truck pulling a trailer with non-functioning brake lights.

According to the DPS:

The Canyon ISD school bus was northbound on Farm-to-Market Road 1541 behind a pickup that was pulling a trailer.

There were no operational taillights on the trailer, and the bus driver could not see the trailer.

The driver of the pickup was in the process of turning into the driveway of a business when the collision occurred.

During the accident, the bus fell onto its left side.

On board the bus was the driver, a school bus attendant and one student. All three were transported to the hospital to be checked out.
