West Texas A&M Director of Athletics Michael McBroom has announced the hiring of Tyson Jex as the new Director of Athletic Communications for the Buffs and Lady Buffs. Jex returns to Canyon after one season at Texas A&M International in Laredo. He will assume his duties on Monday, August 13th.

"We are excited to welcome Tyson, Bethany and their family back to West Texas A&M. Early in this process it was clear that Tyson was a perfect choice to lead our communication and broadcasting efforts into a new era of WT Athletics" said McBroom. "Tyson built strong relationships with our coaching staff and administrators during his prior time at WT, and his work ethic is second to none. He comes to work every day with a great attitude and a passion for promoting our student-athletes."

Jex returns to Canyon following one season as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Texas A&M International where he served as the primary contact for cross country, men's and women's soccer, men's basketball and softball.

The Morgan, Utah native is no stranger to Canyon as he served as a graduate assistant for WT for two seasons starting in 2016. He also served as the main contact for men's track & field/cross country, women's soccer, men's soccer and equestrian teams where he was in charge of writing previews, recaps, updating stats, creating graphics and promoting the programs in the community and with the local media.

Along with working with his assigned teams at WT, he worked closely with the Buffalo Football program on their National Signing Day coverage in 2016 and 2017. He also served as a secondary contact for the WT Baseball team during the 2017 season.

Before making the move to Canyon, he spent one year as an Athletic Communications Student Assistant at Weber State where he was in charge of the men's and women's track & field/cross country and volleyball. Jex earned his Bachelors of Arts in Communication with an emphasis in journalism from WSU in 2015. He earned a Masters of Arts in Communication Studies from WT in 2017 where he graduated with a 3.8 GPA.
