Randall County Sheriff’s Office warns residents about phone scam

A resident of Amarillo was recently scammed out of $2,000 by a person calling claiming to be Sgt. Cody Weavers from the Randall County Sheriff’s Office. He told the victim that there was a Bench Warrant for her arrest but it could be cleared up if she paid the $2,000 fine.

The scammer told her to go to Walmart and purchase a Green Dot Card in that amount. The scammer also mentioned that he was working with Judge Anderson on clearing these warrants.

Investigators said the scammer called from is 806-476-4511. There are no phone numbers in any Randall County Government Office like this.

Please remember, a law enforcement agency or court of law will never ask you to pay a fine using this payment method. Furthermore, all warrants are taken care of by either arrest or by the wanted person turning themselves in and making payment arrangements through the courts.
