Officials announce new non-stop jet service from Amarillo to Austin

On Tuesday, the City of Amarillo and ViaAir announced a new non-stop flight to Austin from Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport.

"Our transportation needs continue to increase as Amarillo grows. This announcement of a non-stop flight to Austin is a perfect example of airlines identifying our city as a key destination in Texas and our Airport staff's commitment to strategically address those travel needs," Amarillo City Councilman Eddy Sauer said.

ViaAir officials specified the flights would be jet service and will begin on September 19, 2018.

"Amarillo is an amazing city and we're excited about the opportunity to serve both its business and leisure travelers alike with non-stop jet service to and from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Central Texas as part of our 2018 expansion.

"Our jet service to Austin will move travelers to and from Amarillo far faster and more economically that existing airline options or traveling by car. When flying with us you are truly our guest, not just a passenger."

“Austin is an amazing, fast-growing city.  We are thrilled to bring the convenience of direct flights to the markets of Tucson and Oklahoma City as the start of expanded service in the region.  We will roll out additional cities throughout next year as we hope to be known as Austin’s hometown airline," Via Airlines Vice President of Operations Matthew Macri said.

Florida based ViaAir was founded in 1997. The airline currently flies to 18 destinations and has 12 planes in its fleet.
