WT's Hind named the LSC Outdoor Track & Field Men’s Academic Player of the Year

West Texas A&M senior Owen Hind continued to add to his already impressive resume on Wednesday afternoon as the London native was named the 2018 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Men's Academic Player of the Year announced by the league's offices in Richardson, Texas.

Hind has become a force on the track for the No. 7 Buffs during his time in Maroon & White as the senior distance specialist registered a provisional mark for the 2018 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships during the Bryan Clay Invite in Azusa, California back on April 19th with a new school record in the 5,000m with a time of 14:14.48 for the 17th fastest time so far this season in Division II.

Hind has become one of the top cross-country and distance runners in Lone Star Conference history as the London, England native has claimed three school records while making three appearances at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships.

He also picked-up All-American honors in cross country this past fall with a 40th place finish at nationals with a time of 34:53.50 as he was named the LSC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year. He claimed the LSC Cross Country Individual Title this past October in Kingsville. In the classroom, Hind was named the 2017 LSC Men's Cross Country Academic Runner of the Year.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement.

The Buffs and Lady Buffs begin the 2018 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship this afternoon at LeGrand Stadium in San Angelo, Texas on the campus of Angelo State University.
