Lady Buffs golf team earns NCAA Championship berth

The No. 14 West Texas A&M women's golf team fired a final round 296 and finished runner-up at the 2018 NCAA West Regional, earning its third-straight trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship and fourth overall as a program. 

WT sophomore Holly Hunter finished as Co-Regional Champion tied with Oklahoma Christian's Kate Goodwin, each at a +7 and a 54-hole score of 223.

The Lady Buffs finished 11th in 2016 at Commonground Golf Course in Denver, while finishing a school-best fourth last year in Findlay, Ohio.The Lady Buffs made their first trip to the national championship in 2009, finishing tied for ninth.

For this regional, WT finished second in par 3 scoring at +22for a 3.37 clip, while finishing second in par 4 scoring at 4.29 (+44) and was fourth in par 5 scoring at 5.15 for a +9.

WT tallied 155 pars and 23 birdies, along with one eagle as the 155 pars was second for the championship behind 162 from DBU.

Winter finished third in par 3 scoring at +1 for a 3.08 clip, while also finishing third at 2-under for a 4.83 clip in par 5 scoring.

The Lady Buffs again will compete for the national championship in Houston.
