DPS seizes 150 pounds of marijuana after I-40 traffic stop

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized 150 pounds of marijuana Wednesday, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Carson County.

At approximately 2:19 p.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2001 Ford F-250 traveling east on I-40 near Conway, for a traffic violation. The Trooper, with the assistance of a DPS canine, then discovered multiple tape-wrapped bundles of marijuana inside the external diesel tank in the bed of the pickup truck.

The driver – 54-year-old Alex Orantez – and passenger – 23-year old Francisco Bermudez (23) – were arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana. Orantez and Bermudez, both of Tucson, Arizona, were transported and booked into the Carson County jail.
