Buffs heading to 3rd straight Lone Star Conference title game

Behind a season-high 24 runs and a season-high 21 hits, the No. 5 West Texas A&M baseball team blitzed Eastern New Mexico in a 24-2 win at Wilder Park in the second semifinal of the Lone Star Conference Tournament.  The top-seeded Buffs moved onto their third-straight Lone Star Conference title game Saturday at 3 p.m. versus No. 2-seed Tarleton State.

The Buffs scored in seven of the eight innings the team batted, scoring a game-high six runs in the seventh.

Two different Buffs each had four hits in the game as Nakagawa was 4 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBI, including a double and a triple, while Baxter went 4 for 6 with three runs scored and a career-high seven RBI, including two doubles and a triple.

Amaro, Bryan and senior Nelson Paredes each had home runs for the Buffs.

Senior Joe Corbett picked up his school-record-tying tenth win of the season (10-2) going seven innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs, walked none and fanned eight.

Webster had three hits with a run scored and a RBI for the Greyhounds who ended their season at 24-24.

WT tallied its school-record 39th win of the season and 25th home win of the year as the Buffs have at least one more home game (Saturday) to try to match the school-record for home victories.

A total of 11 different Buffs had hits in the game and six had multi-hit games.

WT will be going for a three-peat in the winning conference tournament championships for the first since Abilene Christian won three-straight from 2000-2002.

The Buffs improved to 11-14 all-time in the LSC Championship and 11-9 all-time under tenth-year head coach Matt Vanderburg.
