Lady Buffs drop to third in newest South Central Regional rankings

The #12 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M fell one spots to number three in the newest South Central Regional softball rankings announced on Wednesday afternoon from the association's headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The #3 Mavericks of Colorado Mesa sit atop of the regional poll followed by #6 Angelo State, #12 West Texas A&M, #15 Tarleton State, #14 Texas A&M-Commerce, Colorado Christian, Cameron, Regis, Rogers State and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The 64-team field for the 2017 NCAA Division II Softball Championship will be announced via an online selection show taking place on NCAA.com on Monday, May 7th with eight selections coming from the South Central Region. Winners of the LSC, Heartland and RMAC Tournament will receive an automatic bid into the regional with the final five spots being determined by the NCAA selection committee as at-large selections.

If the playoffs started today, Colorado Mesa would host a four-team double elimination tournament in Grand Junction against Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce and Regis while WT, Colorado Christian and Cameron would travel to San Angelo to face-off with Angelo State on May 10-13 with the winner of those two regionals facing off in a best-of-three Super Regional at the highest remaining seed on May 18-19. The NCAA Division II College World Series will take place at the Regency Athletic Complex in Denver, Colorado on May 23-28.
