Amarillo carjacking suspect arrested in Carson County

Late Monday afternoon, the Amarillo Police Department investigated two cases in which a vehicle was forcibly taken from a victim.

The first case happened at Wal-Mart at 4215 Canyon Drive at 4:17 pm. That case involved a 60 year old man’s gray Dodge Ram pickup being taken by a Hispanic male.

Investigators say the suspect approached the truck as the victim was looking for a parking place on the lot. He opened the door, pulled the victim out, and drove away in the vehicle.

At 4:24 pm, a second similar incident was reported at United Market Street at 2530 S. Georgia. Officers determined that not only was the suspect description similar, but the pickup stolen at Wal-Mart was left on the lot at United.

The suspect stole a silver Nissan SUV from a female victim and left the scene.

At this point it does not appear that the suspect used a weapon and there is no information to indicate that the victims were injured. More information will be released when it is available.

The Carson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that David Antonio Silva was arrested at 5:30 PM by a DPS near Panhandle. He was driving the stolen Nissan.

Silva is in custody at the Carson County Sheriff’s Office.
