WTAMU's Jordan Evans named LSC Offensive Player of the Week

West Texas A&M senior men's basketball standout Jordan Evans was named Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.  This is Evans' first weekly honor of the season and fourth for the Buffs.

Evans, a native of Houston, Texas, became the fourth different Buff to earn either Offensive or Defensive Player of the Week honors this week after another stellar week.  The 6-5 guard eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark with a 27-point outing in a thrilling 107-93 victory over No. 19 (NAIA) Langston.  Evans went 12 of 24 from the field for the week, 10 of 17 from beyond the arc (.588) and 11 of 12 from the line (.917).  He averaged four rebounds with 3.0 assists and recorded one block, while scoring a team-high 22.5 points.

His 27 points gave him 1,007 for his career on Saturday also on his 23rd birthday.  He entered the weekend 38 points shy of 1,000 and scored 45.  He had six triples on Saturday and added 18 points in the 112-78 victory over Southwestern Christian on Friday.  Evans has scored in double figures in five of six starts this season for the 6-0 Buffs and has three games of 20 or more points this season.

Evans and the No. 10-ranked Buffs head on the road to open the 2017-18 Lone Star Conference slate this weekend with games at Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico.  Fans can catch the action with links to live stats and audio/video streaming at on the men's basketball schedule page and the games also will be broadcast on 98.7 Lonestar FM throughout the Texas Panhandle with Kent Johnson and Lucas Kinsey having the call of the games.
