Buffs sweep Lone Star Conference weekly awards

West Texas A&M senior David Chavlovich and freshman Gaige Prim were named Lone Star Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced Tuesday.  This is Chavlovich's sixth weekly honor of his career and the first for Prim.

Chavlovich, a native of Arlington, Texas, dropped a career-high 40 points in the 92-88 win over Adams State in the first game of the Al Kaly Classic and followed with 14 points – all in the second half of a big comeback by the Buffs for a 91-80 win at Colorado State-Pueblo.  WT was down by as many as 14 points in the first half in the game.

For the week, Chavlovich went 16 of 31 from the field, 7 of 17 from beyond the arc and 15 of 18 from the line.  He went a career-best 13 of 18 from the field against Adams State with six triples and 8 of 10 from the line as he tied the school-record for the fourth-most points scored in a game.  After not scoring in the first half of the game at CSUP, Chavlovich scored 14 points in the final 10 minutes in the win as he had four rebounds, eight assists, while being clutch down the stretch going 7 of 8 from the line for the game.

He is the school's all-time leading scorer and is 139 points from 2,000 for his career as he has 1,861 points, including 99 this season.  He is 26 of 57 from the field for the year (.456), while going 13 of 30 from beyond the arc (.433) and a team-best 34 of 38 from the line for a .895 clip.  Chavlovich is averaging 4.5 rebounds per game, 5.5 assists per game and 24.8 points per contest.

Prim, a native of Aurora, Colo., had an outstanding week to his young WT career as he recorded his first double-double in the win at CSU-Pueblo.  He scored ten points with ten rebounds, including nine on the defensive end, as the Buffs battled back for the win.  This week, Prim was 10 of 16 from the field (.625), while going 3 of 5 from the line and averaged a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game with three blocks and one steal.  He went 4 of 5 from the field and 2 of 3 from the line at CSUP with two key blocks coming off the bench as five Buffs registered double figures.  Prim added five boards, one block and one steal in the victory over Adams State the day before.

For the season, Prim is fourth in scoring at 8.8 points per game, as he is 14 of 28 from the field (.500), while going 7 of 11 from the line.  He is averaging 5.5 rebounds per game ranking second on the team with three blocks and one steal.

Chavlovich and Prim join junior Ryan Quaid to earn weekly honors for the Buffs this season as Quaid was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week last week.

The Buffs return home to host Southwestern Christian Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup with Langston on Saturday at 5 p.m. both at the First United Bank Center.  Following Saturday's game against Langston, the Buffs will autograph schedule posters for the season.
