Trump introduces Kirstjen Nielsen for Homeland Security post

President Donald Trump has introduced Kirstjen Nielsen as his nominee for homeland security secretary. Nielsen is a top White House aide and formerly worked at the department. Nielsen is Trump's current deputy chief of staff under Kelly. She also worked for Kelly when he served as secretary of DHS.

“Through her wisdom and her leadership, she has won the universal respect of my entire Cabinet and senior White House staff,” Trump said.

Nielsen, speaking after the president, said it was a “privilege” to have served in the administration.

“I share the president’s profound commitment to the security of our country and safety of the American people,” Nielsen said.
