Reince Priebus resigns as Trump's chief of staff

President Donald Trump's embattled chief of staff Reince Priebus resigned on Friday following tensions behind the scenes at the White House.

“It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve this president and our country.

“I want to thank the president for giving me this very special opportunity. I will continue to serve as a strong supporter of the president's agenda and policies,” Priebus said in a statement.

In a tweet on Friday, Trump expressed his appreciation for Priebus, who became chief of staff at the beginning of the administration.

“I would like to thank Reince Priebus for his service and dedication to his country,” the president tweeted. “We accomplished a lot together and I am proud of him!”
